Linux Setup Notes

Ubuntu 18.04

/etc/default/keyboard:
XKBOPTIONS="lv3:ralt_switch_multikey,terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp,ctrl:nocaps"
dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration

This should also work for the tty, not just X.
ctrl:nocaps because sometimes Caps Lock activates silently when I’m in the lockscreen
compose key is a Unix specific key that helps with inputting foreign language alphabets
I can’t believe ctrl-alt-backspace is optional

~/.Xmodmap:
keycode 107 = Menu

To get rid of the useless PrtSc key on the Thinkpad X230 keyboard. GDM will load ~/.Xmodmap automatically. If it were any other desktop manager I’d have to hack up a lot of scripts.

sudo apt install printer-driver-cups-pdf

Mounting NTFS drives: the recommended setup in /etc/fstab
/dev/disk/by-label/WINDOWS /mountpoint ntfs noatime,uid=1000,gid=1000,dmask=027,fmask=137
dmask and fmask set file permission defaults to drwxr-x—
noatime can prevent disk thrashing

Set RTC to local timezone because Windows likes it that way
timedatectl set-local-rtc 1 --adjust-system-clock
